Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Radio Wolga was a radio station for the Soviet armed forces in the former GDR (East Germany). Until 1967 Radio Wolga broadcast from the Königs Wusterhausen radio facility near Berlin. After 1967 the Burg AM transmitter near Magdeburg was used. From 1967 to 1976 Radio Wolga used the 350-meter SL-3 tower, 2.2 kilometers from the transmitter. After it collapsed in 1976, one of the site''s two 210-meter high steel tube masts was used instead. Radio Wolga originally broadcast on the longwave frequency 283 kHz, later moving to 263 kHz and finally 261 kHz. Beside programs for the Soviet soldiers stationed in the GDR, Radio Wolga also occasionally produced programming in the German language. After German reunification in 1990 part of the transmitting time was rented to the German-language news station Radioropa Info.

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Radioropa Info was the designation of the only German language privately-owned longwave broadcasting station. It was the air with several stations during the 1990s with a silent stretch on longwave in the middle of the decade. Radioropa was first available only on satellite. It then began using time on the Radio Wolga longwave service on 261 kHz at the Burg AM transmitter in Burg bei Magdeburg, Saxony-Anhalt. Next, Radioropa obtained FM frequencies in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saxony. When the Soviet army withdrew from the former East Germany in 1994, Radioropa took over 261 kHz completely. The longwave transmission went silent during 1994/1995 because the rent for the transmitter was too high. Only after a new contract with Deutsche Telekom was prepared did Radioropa continue to send Info on longwave.
